Texting Stats Vary by Age Demographic

A study from the Pew Research Center has quantified what anyone who walks through the Quad likely already knows ? young people use text messaging more than twice as frequently as older adults.

Young adults send and receive an average of 109.5 messages each day, while the entire adult population exchanges an average of only 41.5 messages per day according to a study released last week.

?Twine? Foreshadows A Future Where All Objects Talk To The Internet

Want to be notified to turn on the AC when a room reaches a certain temperature? Or when your laundry's done? Well MIT Media Lab alumni Supermechanical have built Twine, a sleek 2.5" rubber square which connects to Wifi and allows objects to "communicate" under certain conditions. The Twine, which reminds me of a Square from a design simplicity perspective, comes with a web app, 'Spool' which allows you to program its sensors with natural language rules like "When: accelerometer is at rest, Then: Tweet" in the case of the laundry done thing, for example.

Asthma Text Messaging

Text message reminders help children -- but not teenagers -- stick with their asthma medication schedule, a new study finds.

It is common for youngsters to forget to take asthma control medications, and missing doses can result in poor asthma control.

This small pilot study included patients ages 6 to 17 who had moderate, persistent or more severe asthma and used inhaled corticosteroids to keep their asthma under control. The participants received daily text messages reminding them to take their controller medication, and their asthma control was monitored by researchers.

Nokia says Apple iPhone Infringes on Patent

Nokia, the world's largest maker of cell phones, is suing Apple in U.S. federal court, saying the iPhone uses patented wireless technologies.

Nokia Corp. claims the iPhone infringes on ten patents covering both phone calls and Wi-Fi access. It says 40 other phone manufacturers have licensed these patents from Nokia, but Apple has not.
