FCC Asks Verizon Wireless to Explain

The Federal Communications Commission on Friday asked Verizon Wireless why it recently doubled the fees it charges customers when they break their contracts on smart phones.

In November, the carrier hiked the maximum early contract termination fee for smart phones to $350 from $175. Like other carriers, Verizon subsidizes the cost of the devices for contract-signing customers, then expects to make that money back in service fees over the term of the contract.

- Employees should not engage in the use of a cell phone when doing so would cause a distraction not the user or co-worker assisting a member of the public.

-Employees should avoid lengthy conversations on cell phones.

-Cell phones should turn down the sounds on their phones or switch to vibrate to prevent them from becoming a distraction in the workplace.

Now that most people have a cell phone and once-heady growth in the industry is slowing, analysts say carriers are going to be looking at buying each other to increase their scale and to avoid competing too much on price. Consumers have been benefiting from relentless price-cutting on cell phone service in the past few years.
