Samsung's promotional video teases with a sleek, curved device in profile, but no specifics, tossing around images of cookies and milk, newspapers and coffee, wine and candles, and promising "another perfect combination is just around the corner, get ready for it."
The reference may be to the newest Android phone from the handset giant, which is expected to run Google's Android 4.0, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich (all Android versions have dessert names). Samsung's next eagerly awaited phone is the Nexus Prime, the latest successor to the Nexus One phone, made by HTC, that debuted in 2010 but failed to sell directly from Google's online store.
Samsung picked up the Nexus mantle with the Nexus S, which went on sale last November. It is widely expected that the Nexus Prime will be the first phone to show off the capabilities of Ice Cream Sandwich.
The combination reference could also mean the Nexus Prime will debut with a matching Android tablet that would show the uniformity of the operating system for both form factors.
Given the high expectations of many iPhone fans that an iPhone 5 was in the pipeline, unveiling the less-grandiose iPhone 4S may present an opportunity for Samsung, which is engaged in legal battles with Apple over patents, to win over some disappointed iPhone fans.
