As I started drafting a couple blogs regarding some recent and interesting transactions (CenturyLink/Savvis and iWeb going private) I keep on coming back to "why firms do acquisitions". Obviously there are many motivations but we will touch a few today...I need to move them off my brain.
I recently wrote "There is not a faster way to obtain mass, economies of scale than doing a deal." Yes you can market like crazy but in the end it takes longer to get there. In December, Hartland Ross (a Whir Blogger) intimated that people that don't understand marketing go that (buying customers) route. Frankly it is a lot more than that.
