India Uses SMS for Health Reminders

For the first time in the northeast an innovative project was launched to make new mothers more aware of health and hygiene through SMS alerts by the health department on Tuesday.

The project - Mother and Child Tracking System ( MCTS) - which is a part of the National Rural Health Mission, is directed towards welfare of mothers in Kumarghat in North Tripur district.

Under the system, a new mother as well as the expecting ones will receive health reminders on their mobile phones for regular checkups.
